Waterproofing for Beginners

So you’ve decided to finally look into waterproofing basement of your house. First of all, you should know that this is a very important thing to do and something that you shouldn’t procrastinate about. After all, if the integrity of the foundation is compromised in any way because of water damage, then the value of your home will immediately decrease, and it will cost you thousands of pounds in order to do the necessary repairs.

The problem with majority of leaky, water-damaged basements is that the home owners often choose not to do anything about the problem when it first appears in the form of a small puddle.

Whenever you first see just a trickle of water entering your house, you need to do something about it right away so that it won’t worsen and cause any major problems in the future. Consider the mold that will begin to grow due to the moisture and dampness in your basement, and remember how many health problems are associated with molds. They can cause problems such as head aches or asthma for your family later on. The way to kill the source of the molds is to get rid of all the water coming into your own house.

Basically, there are two different types of waterproofing. The first system is installed basically from the outside, while the other system is installed from the inside (this is called the water management system). If the problem is not fixed early on, you would need to use an outside system in order to fix the problem. This would involve digging around your house and may even mean rebuilding the foundation wall. You will then be using a waterproofing spray to protect your basement from water.

Once you’ve finally stopped the water from trickling into your basement, you will need to kill the molds that may have already accumulated. Go to your local hardware store and get some mold killing products that you can easily spray onto the entire surface area.

If the basement is already covered with black mold, you may need to get a mold remediation company because this is something that you can’t solve on your own. Make sure you’ve already stopped and prevented any more water from coming in so as not to aggravate the problem. Make this your top priority, since your family’s health may already be at stake.
