Fixing a Clogged Drain the Greener Way

A clogged drain can definitely bring a headache for a homeowner. Unfortunately, these are just one of those things that are almost inevitable. Even the most effective draining systems may still experience a clog every once in a while. For those who find themselves in such a situation, the easier option would be to go out and buy a chemical drain cleaner and pour it down the sink.

While this may be an effective short term solution, it may cause damage not only to one’s sink, but also to Mother Nature as well. Nowadays, it is always better to go green and this mindset can also be applied to problems involving clogged drains.

By following these simple steps, one should be able to resolve the problem without having to turn to chemical products or needing to hire a professional.

Firstly, one will have to unscrew the sink cover and clean any debris that may have gotten stuck in it. If this doesn’t resolve the clog, one should then fill the sink halfway. After which, it would be time to use a plunger to try and resolve the clog. Generally, one should pump it up and down around ten times, making sure that after the last pump, it is lifted quickly from the drain.

If this still doesn’t work, one will need to make use of a clogged drain snake of some sort. One can easily purchase a drain snake from the local hardware store and even ask for advice from the vendor. Otherwise, there should be easy to follow instructions included with the snake. More often than not, this step should be able to solve the clogging problem.

However, if all these steps have been exhausted to no avail, then it is obvious that the clogging problem is one that is beyond one’s ability. This means that it would probably be time to hire a professional plumbing service. There are a lot of effective plumbing services throughout the UK and finding one shouldn’t be difficult at all. Just be sure to tell the plumbers what you’ve already done just to be sure that everything is on the table.

It is actually possible that by following any of the steps mentioned above incorrectly may lead to other plumbing problems. Aside from having clogged drain pipes, one might encounter even more issues that a professional will have to deal with. In the end, it is always better to be safe than sorry.
